Important: planning tool only

Water System Planner provides general educational estimates for shopping and planning. It is not a laboratory, drinking-water safety determination, medical service, public-health service, plumbing design, engineering service, code-compliance review, installation instruction, legal advice, or a substitute for a manufacturer’s current documentation.

Do not use this site to decide whether water is safe to drink

Never rely on this site to declare water potable, unsafe, free of a contaminant, or adequately treated. For a private well or a suspected health-related contaminant, use an appropriately certified laboratory and follow your state/local health authority or water utility. If a boil-water advisory, do-not-drink notice, flooding event, illness concern, or other urgent public-health warning applies, follow the responsible public authority rather than this site.

Estimates depend on your inputs

Calculator outputs are mathematical estimates based on the values you enter and the assumptions shown on the page. Incorrect, incomplete, estimated, stale, or non-representative inputs can produce unsuitable results. Sizing confidence is only a measure of input quality for planning; it is not a water-safety score.

No guarantee of equipment suitability or performance

A calculated capacity band, flow target, treatment sequence, cost estimate, or product-fit result does not guarantee that a specific product is suitable for your home, plumbing, water chemistry, pressure, drain/backwash conditions, electrical service, local code, warranty requirements, or intended contaminant reduction. Product performance can differ by operating point, configuration, installation, maintenance, media age, pressure, temperature, chemistry, and other conditions.

Verify exact product claims

Product names, prices, specifications, capacities, service-flow ratings, pressure-drop figures, certifications, warranties, and availability can change. Before purchase or installation, verify the exact model and current documentation with the manufacturer and, where relevant, the certification body. A certification mark on one model or claim must not be assumed to apply to another model or contaminant.

Qualified installation and local requirements

Water-treatment equipment can involve pressurized plumbing, drainage/backwash, electrical work, structural support, cross-connection or backflow requirements, and local permit or code obligations. Use appropriately qualified professionals when required by law, the manufacturer, or the conditions of your installation. The site does not approve an installation plan.

Cost information is illustrative

Ownership-cost, salt-use, maintenance, and other financial estimates are illustrative only and are not quotes, offers, tax advice, utility-rate guarantees, or promises of savings. Actual prices and operating costs vary by location, vendor, usage, inflation, taxes, shipping, installation, and maintenance.

Third-party sites and affiliate links

Links to manufacturers, retailers, laboratories, certification bodies, government agencies, or other third parties are provided for reference. We do not control third-party content, availability, pricing, privacy practices, claims, or performance. If commission-bearing links are enabled, a clear disclosure is shown with the recommendation or link; compensation does not change the formulas used by the calculators.

No warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted availability, or a particular result. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the site operator and contributors are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or economic losses arising from reliance on the site, including property damage, equipment damage, water damage, treatment failure, lost savings, lost profits, or costs of replacement services. Where liability cannot legally be excluded, it is limited only to the extent permitted by law. Nothing here limits liability that applicable law does not allow to be limited or excluded.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for verifying measurements, laboratory results, manufacturer specifications, certifications, local requirements, and final purchasing or installation decisions. Do not bypass product manuals, licensed-professional requirements, or public-health instructions because of a result shown on this site.

Changes and availability

Formulas, source links, site features, and these Terms may be updated as guidance or products change. A date shown as “reviewed” means the page was checked against the listed sources on that date; it does not guarantee that every external source will remain unchanged afterward.
