Important limitations

Safety & Legal Disclaimer

Read this before relying on a sizing, treatment-order, product-fit, cost or maintenance estimate.

This site does not determine whether your water is safe to drink. A calculator result is not a laboratory result, medical/public-health recommendation, plumbing design, engineering approval, code review, or guarantee that a product will work in your home.

For health-related contaminants

For lead, arsenic, PFAS, nitrate, bacteria, pathogens, or another health concern, use an appropriately certified laboratory or your utility’s official water-quality report and match treatment to the exact contaminant, concentration, and certified product claim. If an authority has issued a boil-water, do-not-drink, or similar notice, follow that authority.

For private wells

Well-water conditions can change and can require testing beyond hardness, iron, manganese, odor, or pH. This site does not assess microbiological safety, well construction, flooding impact, source protection, or every chemical contaminant.

For equipment sizing

Flow, nominal grain labels, usable capacity, pressure drop, backwash requirements, drain capacity, electrical requirements, bypass arrangement, plumbing diameter, and local code all matter. Verify the exact current manufacturer documentation and use a qualified installer or engineer where appropriate.

For product claims

A brand, technology, or generic media type does not prove removal of a particular contaminant. Verify the exact model and the exact certified or substantiated claim. Certification scopes differ by standard, model, contaminant, flow, capacity, and operating conditions.

For costs and savings

Cost outputs are estimates from your inputs, not quotes or promises of savings. Actual purchase, installation, tax, maintenance, salt, media, utility and repair costs can differ materially.

Emergency situations

Do not use this site as emergency guidance. For suspected poisoning, acute illness, a public-health advisory, a flood-contaminated well, or another urgent situation, use the instructions of the responsible utility, health authority, emergency service, poison-control service, or medical professional.

By using the tools, you acknowledge that final testing, product selection, installation and compliance decisions remain your responsibility. See the full Terms of Use.
